Today...
Things are changing rapidly around SurvivalRing, with new ebooks coming, tons of new survival documents, and so much more. For the ABSOLUTE latest about SurvivalRing upgrades, new sections, new tools, and community enhancement, please visit my Cosmic Echoes blog every day. As SurvivalRing continues growing, it is much easier and infinitely faster for me to add the latest update alert via the blog. And, you can comment on any and all postings there to let me know what you think and give me your much valued feedback.
But, there are couple of things you NEED to know. Both are great news for the future of this website, and our little community of preparedness folks.
First, and most importantly, I have just purchased a brand new forum to replace our still offline Ikonboard forums, which were locked up to extremely severe security and spam problems. The forum sytem will be replaced by an Invision Power Board package that brings a huge set of features to our system. Thanks to one of our long term site supporters, we've covered over half the cost of this investment. I've just added several more polls to our list, and I would like to invite ALL of you to use them to tell me what you would like to see added to SurvivalRing this year.
I've got some brand new, never before on the web, digital civil defense documents coming online in the next few days, and you'll see them HERE first. I've also added a new Bird Flu Prepping
tools section, and will be adding articles, government documents, and more planning info for this very potential threat to SurvivalRing in the month of February, with real facts, real government planning, and suggestions on how you can plan for caring for your family, should a true pandemic break out in this nation.
I've got an entirely new design in work for SurvivalRing, to tie together ALL the areas of the site in a more manageable system, and will be seeking a handfull of you (volunteers, anyone?) to help me beta test the new design, comment on the new layout, and help me tune it as it goes live. It started out as a single web page to support the SurvivalRing Survival and Preparedness webring, hosted way back then on Webring.org (now a poorly run Dot.Com company). Within a couple of months, the webring had 12 members webrings. By the late fall of 1999 (pre Y2K), SurvivalRing had 750 members and amazing traffic.
Starting in early 1998, SurvivalRing become it’s own website, with hosting, downloads, features, and a budding online community was born.
Today, SurvivalRing has been beefed up on infrastructure and backend support, and now has the room, and power, to offer AMAZING future growth.

One of the hottest
pages on the site (besides the US Nuclear Targets page) is
theComputer Survivalpage, which offers help and access to free downloads
to protect YOUR online world, and keep your computer safe from
viruses, spyware, and worse. I also have a new Classifieds section about to
come online ( still some tweaking ), a BRAND new onsite blog
system, called Cosmic
Echoes, and finally, after all this time, the SurvivalRing
FORUMS are taking off. I have a handful of brand
spanking new Shelter PDF files almost ready, so stay tuned
HERE for news and download links.
Things are quiet after the recent
president election, but don't get too complacent. The Iraq war
is still raging, and there are many rumors of enemy activity
either within, or close to, our nation's borders. This nation
has not seen the last of attacks on our soil from Al Queda or
Muslim Extremists, and more than ever each and every one of us
will have to STAY ON ALERT, and not stay "complacent
Americans". We each have to take a real,
PERSONAL stance in protecting our nation, and
when it's time for us to truly act, we can't let our families
and neighbors down.
I've even talked to Air
Force and Army recruiters who have come to my college campus
the past month about *my* chances in making a difference, but
there seems to be no place for a 44 year old geek like myself
in today's military...I would if I could. I suppose instead
I'll concentrate instead on the homefront, and providing the
things I know best....free, real, government authorized and
produced, survival and preparedness info. I've already done
REAL time serving our nation, with 10 years as a federal
employee, and 4 1/2 years building Defense Electronics systems
(FLIR systems, LASER guidance, and TOW missile control units
in the 80s), but would help again if given the opportunity.

will be going up to $25 each, plus shipping, and subscriptions
will be going to $3 a month...but remember, ALL income from these projects goes BACK

require a token payment for download, to cover bandwidth

CROSS, and WMD training materials. Hardware needs are coming

external hard drive for digital editing (audio and video file
storage), and an inexpensive DV based camcorder ( yes, I am
going to produce video content on all the things I already
talk about or offer here on SurvivalRing). I'll have my
broadcasting degree
finished in May, and I have big plans on what I am planning to
do with that degree.

Welcome To
SurvivalRing - The BEST place in the world to start on YOUR
road to preparedness.
SurvivalRing started out in 1997 as a single web page,
supporting the very first survival and preparedness oriented
webring. Over the next few years, it grew into a vast site,
offering some of the hardest to find survival documents in the
world...ORIGINAL civil defense documents, as created by the US
and other governments.
It also turned into its very own portal
system, linking to most of the oldest and best known
preparedness, survival, and self reliance web sites on the
web, through the webring, direct links, and many other ways.
Our email lists reach people all over the world, our downloads
are completely free for all, our community services such as
lists, clubs, chat, bbs, calendar and more are available to
all, and more features are being added all the time...again,
all at no cost to anyone.
Currently we offer over 30,000 megabytes of
civil defense files for download, with gigabytes more being
made available via cd rom (we only have 1000 megabytes
available on our web server right now!).
Our goals with
SurvivalRing, and our Civil Defense Now project, are to
collect and digitize EVERY SINGLE original civil defense
document we can get our hands on, and share them with you and
anyone else concerned with what "The Bad Guys" can and might
throw at us. What has threatened civilization and society in
the past, can and does threaten us again...whether it's
terrorism, nuclear threat, natural disaster, or anything else,
you can and should know what might happen around here. In
helping others prepare, we excel, and will continue sharing as
we can through this site.
We have been working on this project for
years now, and people have noticed. FEMA links to us in some
of their reports...the Department of the Army and some of
their contracters refer to our site in official government
documents as a resource. We've even been written about in
magazines, such as "It's Time For A Revival Of American Civil
Defense" By Jim Benson in Backwood Home magazine. The last
twelve months have seen our site hits reach 4.8 million. We
are not going away...we're here to stay..to continue

Sometimes things just go good for a
change.
Step One
On my end, Friday, June 16th, 2005 was a
very good day. I was in Cheyenne, Wyoming (the state capital)
with Wyoming Public TV, as a production assistant, covering a
special legislative session, and Friday was very exciting for
me personally. We had a bit of slack time before taping in the
afternoon, and we made a few rounds about the town.
First,
one of my fellow cameraman and I dropped by the Herschner
building, where a lot of the state's main offices are, and
visited the main Wyoming Homeland Security office. I met the
Head Guy there, and spent about a half hour with the Public
Information officer, and explained to her what I was doing
with my website, gave her two copies of the latest update of
my CD, and expressed to her my interest in doing a documentary
about Homeland Security as seen from the role of the private
citizen, and how one can become more involved with any of the
various aspects of local, regional, and state level
organizations.
She was very receptive to it, and we
exchanged email addresses, and she is going to make sure I
have access to info, contacts, and any tools I can use for the
video project. This would be a project that I would be putting
together with the goal of gaining more video production
experience for my college media production degree, as well as
a possible project to be shown on our TV station sometime
after it is done. I am really excited about the possibilities
here.
Around 4 in the afternoon, we had an
appointment with the Governor, Dave Freudenthal, and I was the
cameraman for the shoot, for a segment for our station's
special news coverage of the legislative session. Afterwards,
during the small talk, while we were putting the equipment
back in the storage bags, I was able to talk to him for a few
moments, and handed him a copy of the CD as well, and got a
picture of he and I shaking hands with the State Seal right
behind us. It was a big moment for me, and I hope it bodes
well of good things to come.

Governor Dave, although a
Democrat, seemed to be a heck of a guy. I met him once before
(before he was governor) when I was working in his home town
for a few days at the last restaurant I managed, and the guy
is about as good as we can get for this state.
